Belton rose up from a depot stop along the railway that first connected Charleston and Columbia, SC. From its beginnings in the mid-1800s through the years of milling cotton to its current notoriety as a center for sports and culture, Belton has grown and adapted. The location at the intersection of major roadways puts Belton in close proximity to large employment centers, including Greenville and Anderson. It’s already a destination for travelers who come for the Palmetto Tennis Championship, South Carolina Tennis Hall of Fame, Belton Center for the Arts, and the popular Standpipe Heritage and Arts Festival. The town of 4,400 people continues to evolve, with the help of a million-dollar revitalization effort.
