The Benefits of Living in Summerville

Summerville makes scents.

Known as “Flowertown in the Pines”, Summerville is an official Tree City USA community, a program that promotes responsible forestry. The city’s commitment to maintaining its natural beauty is evident in the Azalea Park & Sculpture Garden. This 16-acre park is both child- and dog-friendly. You can wander through the trails lined with fragrant flowers (in spring and summer), sit by one of the butterfly or turtle ponds, browse the unique sculptures, and picnic in a gazebo with a scenic view.

One of the largest arts and festivals festivals in the southeast, the Flowertown Festival, brings thousands of visitors to Summerville annually, the first week of April.

It’s where Charlestonians go for vacation.

When you live in a city that’s a top destination for tourists, where do you go for your own getaway? Summerville! The location affords plenty of recreational pursuits, including golf, tennis, fishing, boating, hunting, camping, biking, hiking, birdwatching, skateboarding, and a plethora of playgrounds. Visitors enjoy the historic sites in Downtown Summerville, as well as Magnolia Plantation, Drayton Hall, and Middleton Place. And if you’re thirsty in Summerville, the city owns the Guinness record for the world’s largest sweet tea, also known as the “Champagne of the South”. A 15-foot Mason jar (named “Mason”) once held 2,524 gallons, beating Lipton by more than 300 gallons in 2016. Both the record and the “monument” still stand.

Healthy, happy living is affordable.

The quality of life that Summerville residents experience is a big plus. Both healthcare and schools are highly rated here. The appeal of this area is made even better by the affordability. Summerville’s taxes and housing costs are lower than in nearby Charleston.
