Planning your South Carolina staycation

Staycations offer opportunities to explore new parts of your city, bring revenue to the local economy and save money and time by not traveling to a far-off destination. Living in South Carolina means you’re already residing in or near some of the most popular vacation spots in the country—so it’s a no-brainer to plan your next trip right in your backyard. Hunter Quinn Homes has put together some suggestions on making the most of your Charleston or Greenville staycation.

Charleston, SC

The city of Charleston has grown exponentially in popularity over the years, becoming a top destination for all kinds of travelers. For residents, this only means a bustling economy with more things to do than ever before. Additionally, a recent survey from WalletHub ranked this year’s best and worst cities for a staycation—with Charleston coming in fourth place.

Kick things off by spending time outside, enjoying the natural surroundings that make Charleston so popular with tourists. Have a beach day at Folly Beach, Sullivan’s Island or Isle of Palms,  treat yourself to a round of golf at one of the world-renowned courses and rent a paddleboard or kayak to explore the pristine coastline from a new perspective.

Charleston is one of the oldest cities in the United States, offering many attractions for history buffs to enjoy. There’s historic buildings, art museums and history museums to explore, with something for every type of interest. Even walking up and down the old streets gives residents a moment to appreciate the charming coastal architecture around town.

A diverse population and proximity to the Atlantic makes Charleston a foodie’s dream. For your staycation, go out of your way to enjoy a meal or drink somewhere you’ve never visited. With cuisines ranging from southern style, seafood, fine dining, international and more, there’s restaurants at every price range for residents to enjoy.

Greenville, SC

If you’re lucky enough to live in the beautiful town of Greenville, nestled in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you’re in one of the best staycation spots in the state. Whether you spend a day or a long weekend out and about, there’s so much for residents to explore in Greenville.

The surrounding foliage is beautiful any time of year, and residents can explore it from various perspectives. Go for a hike along one of the well-maintained trails or parks, fly above the trees on a Gorge Zipline Canopy Tour and get a view from the top of Chimney Rock.

Take a stroll through Main Street to see the many examples of public art, catch a show at the Greenville Theatre or visit the Greenville County Museum of Art to admire the works of local, national and international artists.

As a great place to raise a family, Greenville has plenty of attractions perfect for the whole family. Kids will enjoy learning at the Roper Mountain Science Center, Upcountry History Museum and the Children’s Museum of the Upstate. Various waterparks, go-karting, mini golfing and a zoo are fun for kids of all ages.

Zagat named Greenville the #1 Under-the-Radar Southern Food Destination, and for good reason. The food scene is dynamic—offering southern comfort classics, traditional dishes with a twist, ethnic cuisines from all over the world, barbecue and more. Residents have over 1,000 restaurants to choose from, so it’ll be easy to find one you haven’t tried to enjoy on staycation.
