Our Home Features and Finishes
With the innumerable products and features available to home builders, we’ve chosen these options for their quality, performance, and design. These companies – along with their products – demonstrate not only Hunter Quinn Homes’ promises of value and quality, but they also work toward fulfilling our ambition to create sustainable and energy efficient homes in Charleston.
Flooring Options by Mohawk
We chose to partner with Mohawk for our flooring partly because they’re one of the largest textile recyclers in the United States. Their passion for sustainability reflects our goals at Hunter Quinn Homes to conserve resources and to reduce our impact on the environment. More importantly though, we wanted to offer our clients the best quality flooring options possible. Mohawk’s Portico Collection was the perfect choice because it offers time-tested durability, holds up well to stains, and comes highly rated by consumers.
The carpet we offer in our homes has earned the Green Label Plus designation, which means that it’s one of the lowest emitting VOC products on the market. Also, the Mohawk company converts 3 billion plastic bottles (which is ¼ of North America’s collected bottles) into 170 million pounds of recycled fiber. This polyester fiber is used to make Mohawk’s carpets and other home products. Mohawk also uses plastic carpet cores, which save 6 million pounds of paper and better protect carpet compared to the standard cardboard cores.
Kitchen and Bath Cabinetry by Aristokraft
With over 50 years of experience, Aristokraft is known for creating cabinetry that is as functional as it is beautiful. For many families, the kitchen is the focus of the home – a place where not only meals are prepared, but also where a morning is started, homework is carried out, the day’s events are shared, a party congregates, and memories are made. Since kitchens are one of the most important factors a home buyer considers, we chose Aristokraft cabinetry for its quality and design.
Aristokraft is recognized by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association (KCMA) Environmental Stewardship Program for its commitment to sustainability. Highlights of this certification include using environmentally responsible materials and reducing environmental impacts by recycling waste and integrating low emission coatings.
Vinyl Siding by Style Crest
As the best value we’ve found in home exteriors, the Sawmill vinyl siding by Style Crest offers years of low maintenance for home owners along with the most popular color and profile options in Charleston. From a builder’s perspective, the durable panel thickness, straight locking system, and reinforced nail hem provide a high quality product to work with. Home buyers tend to like the natural wood grain finishes of this siding, providing a classic look for many years to come.
Style Crest’s Sawmill vinyl siding is a Green Certified Product, which meets the rigorous requirements by the National Green Building Standard (the only ANSI-approved residential green building rating system).
Stainless Steel Appliances by General Electric
Although most Charleston home builders make stainless steel kitchen appliances an upgrade, Hunter Quinn Homes includes these top performing products in every home we sell. We chose the GE brand because as one of the premier American companies, General Electric has demonstrated innovation for over 100 years. Their appliances combine the latest technologies with a sleek, shiny, stainless look that has become one of the most requested features in new construction homes.
GE’s stainless appliances make a bold statement in a kitchen’s design, but they also help reduce energy consumption. For the 7th year in a row, the U.S. Department of Energy and Environmental Protection Agency have awarded GE the Sustained Excellence Award for their commitment to protecting the environment. In addition to the hundreds of Energy Star appliance models GE offers, the company is also the only appliance manufacturer to implement the EPA’s Responsible Appliance Disposal Program. As a result, GE helps reduce both greenhouse gas emissions and waste entering our landfills. GE also works to protect our air and water through their partnership with the EPA’s SmartWay Program which strives to transport appliances to retailers and customers through more sustainable methods.
Shingles, Shakes, Rounds, and Fishscales by Home Accents
This line of exterior accents provides the weathered, wood grain look of cedar without the cracking, rotting, and fading that occur with outdoor wooden features. All of these products created by Home Accents are protected by ColorHold acrylic technology which gives superior color retention and weatherability. These vinyl shingles, fishscales, shakes, and rounds will be able to maintain their shape and natural appearance while also serving to match (or contrast) your new home’s siding.
Like the Style Crest siding (see above), the Home Accents products we use are also designated as a Green Certified Product. This means that the products are shown by a 3rd party to be energy and resource efficient.
Paint by Sherwin Williams
We chose Sherwin Williams paint for its durability, quality, and smooth finish. Our professional painters for Hunter Quinn Homes do their best job when they have the best brands to work with, and our customers appreciate the quality of these paints. Of all the products and features we offer, the paint is seen the most since it covers every wall of the home. Although it may seem a minor detail when choosing flooring, cabinetry, and floor plan options, it’s our job at Hunter Quinn Homes to give the small details as much attention as the big factors.
All of the Sherwin Williams base paints we use are considered low VOC (volatile organic compound) since they’re less than 50g/L. These carbon-containing compounds affect the air quality in a home, and studies show that paint related products are the second largest source of VOC emissions into the atmosphere (with cars being the number one source). In addition to our low VOC paints, our upgrade selections are part of the Builder Solution line of products, so they’ve earned the GreenSure Designation. In short, these paints are created to meet or exceed the strictest regulatory requirements. Visit our Design Center to see our base paint and upgrade options along with the environmental benefits of each!
