Kitchen Showdown—Rock the Block Episode 1

Our team at Hunter Quinn had the amazing opportunity to build the homes featured on the third season of HGTV’s Rock the Block competition. Taking place in Summerville, South Carolina, four interior design duos are going head to head to design the ideal coastal home with plenty of Southern charm. With a budget of $225,000 and just 6 weeks to renovate—the teams will be trying to impress a new guest judge each week as they tackle a different area of the home.

A look back at episode 1

In this first episode, we met our contestants for the season, and the difference in style they all bring to the table let’s us know that we’re in for an incredible journey over the next few weeks. The first challenge the teams faced was designing the heart of every home—the kitchen and dining room.

Egypt and Mike took the family home style up a notch with added luxury that impressed guests judges, Jonathan and Jordan Knight. Keith and Evan make some brave choices with a warm peach paint and antique art piece that doubled as a pot filler. Lyndsay and Leslie had a bold beginning with deep blue cabinets but brought in the Southern charm with a sweet tea bar. It was Dave and Jenny, though, who took the lead this first week with their incredible additions of some classic South Carolina antiques and a hidden kids room behind a secret door in the kitchen pantry.

Enhancing the Hunter Quinn style

This first episode of Rock of the Block expertly encompassed a variety of styles that you can bring to your own space. Wood flooring gives off a luxurious feeling throughout your home and pairs perfectly with a mixture of countertops and cabinet selections. Leaning toward a neutral backdrop opens up the space, but adding in a variety of textures can elevate any room.

The takeaway from this first episode? Take advantage of the South Carolina sunshine with plenty of windows and incredible indoor and outdoor space—and with a subtle, inviting and effortlessly beautiful interior, your home will be the talk of the neighborhood.
