Charleston’s Regional Economic Scorecard for 2013

10/31/2013

charleston regional developmentEach year, the Charleston Regional Development Alliance and the Charleston Metro Chamber of Commerce create a Regional Economic Scorecard that tracks our local economic progress for tri-county Charleston. You can download the full report from their website: http://www.crda.org/economicscorecard/

The Scorecard compares Charleston to 6 similar metro areas including Greenville, South Carolina; Jacksonville, Florida; Knoxville, Tennessee; Lexington, Kentucky; Richmond, Virginia; and Savannah, Georgia. It also analyzes 2 leading cities in the country: Austin, Texas and Raleigh, North Carolina.

Some of the economic development indicators include regional employment (Charleston’s growth was 11.5% from 2005 to 2012), gross regional product (26.2% growth from 2005 to 2011), and earnings per worker (grew 21.5%) – just to name a few.

The Economic Scorecard also offers local snapshots such as the Closer Look section on Boeing (one of Charleston’s largest employers). In the next 8 years, this company will invest an estimated $1.1 billion into our local economy and hire 2,000 additional workers.

Charleston is such a popular area to live that we’re fortunate our city attracts and retains a good workforce. As home builders, Hunter Quinn Homes relies on a growing demand from home buyers looking for affordable housing options. We take pride in adding to our strong local economy and helping our Charleston neighbors!
